About The Department

SocratesThe Department of Philosophy in Domkal Girls’ College was introduced in 2014 with programme course in CBCS system under Kalyani University. The Domkal Girls’ College is situated at the Centre of the Domkal Municipality town, Murshidabad. Most of the students are coming from the Domkal Sub-Division areas. Domkal Sub-Division is a one of the largest Sub-Division in Murshidabad district. Domkal Sub-Division comprising of Domkal Municipality and 4(Four) blocks, namely Domkal, Raninagar-I, Raninagar-II and Jalangi blocks. Most of the inhabitance of Domkal Sub-Division are belongs to minority community and they also mostly in middle class. The willingness to study in philosophy among the girls students are very much high in Under Graduate level but after passing 10+2 in school level they have faced some constrains which was mainly distance, financial burden and lack of awareness among the guardians about the higher study of girls because of that at the initial stage to at present the students enrollment are gradually increasing and accordingly choosing of philosophy as Core subject also increasing gradually. That is why; the relevance of Domkal Girls College is come into being. In 2014, the department was started their journey with one State Aided College Teacher (SACT) namely Mr. Nazrul Islam and he was headed the department up to July, 2019. As per recommendation of West Bengal College Service Commission, Dr Biswajit Barman was joined as Assistant Professor on 01.08.2019. At present, Dr Biswajit Barman performing as Head of the department from his date of joining to this esteem educational institution.

 

 

 
Vision 
  • From the since inception, the main aims of the department are to carry out the middle and advanced level study on the Indian traditional as well as global philosophical thought.
  • To develop middle and advance level of conceptual philosophical competency among the students in the fields of Philosophy, Religion, Culture, Aesthetics, Ethics, Applied Ethics and Socio- Political Philosophy through theoretical discussion as well as taking small level research initiatives and also publication of Journal, Poem, Easy and books.
  • The Department of Philosophy will give greater support and emphasize in Inter disciplinary approach under the domain of Philosophy of Education, Applied Ethics and Philosophy of Social Sciences. For the better success of this approach, we are very much cooperation with the various Departments of our College.
 
Mission 

The department of Philosophy of Domkal Girls College has started the journey from it’s since inception with the specific and vivid mission for the benefit of the students of philosophy and largely for the others departments of Arts and Humanities. As we say in specifically, we are working with keeping in mind in our limited resources for the following missions are intention to full fill as mention hereunder

  • This Department will concentrate on the comparative study of Eastern and Western Philosophical thought with special reference to present problems of human life and societies.
  • The Department of Philosophy plans to organize debates in philosophical as well as social issues, seminars on Women Empowerment with special reference social Justice.
  • The Department of Philosophy will be provided greater opportunity to do students as per the ability of the department on Social, Cultural, Spiritual and Moral issues-facing our nation.
  • To translate the significant works documents of Philosophical Treatises in English to local mother Indian languages.
  • To collaborate with others institution for students as well as departmental all kind of exchange programmes for the benefit of the students.
  • To promote Religious Harmony through Inter-Religious dialogue and Comparative Study of Religions.
