Backward Classes Welfare sub-committee is a Statutory Committee to take care of issues relating to the students of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and OBC communities to tide over their socio-economic backwardness and enable them to successfully complete their academic careers.

Objectives:

The main objectives of the SC/ST welfare are

  • To promote the special interest of the students belonging to SC and ST communities.
  • To provide necessary assistants for improving the learning skills of SC/ST students.
  • To ensure proper implementation of various Programmes and Schemes of State and Central Governments and UGC and other agencies for the welfare of SC/ST students.
  • To provide information on the scholarships, stipends, and other assistants available for SC/ST students from various agencies.
  • To arrange programmes for the promotion of life skills and personality development of SC/St students.
  • To ensure equity and justice for the SC/ST students.
  • To cater to the educational needs of the students of OBC communities. They suffer from constraints like educational backwardness. The cell, therefore, extends assistance to them in their academic pursuit.
  • To disseminate information on Scholarships, endowments, and other financial assistance available for them from Central, State, and Local Governments and also from other funding agencies. There are different types of financial assistance available for OBC students. It is the responsibility of the cell to collect the details and circulate them among the OBC students.
  • Arrange counselling programmes, career classes, and training for entry into service and competitive examinations for the students of OBC communities. Counselling and motivational classes will help them to overcome their learning barriers and constraints.
  • To ensure equal opportunities for the education of Minorities.
  • To facilitate financial support for the students of Minority Communities from the Central and State Governments and also from other funding agencies.
  • To organize career orientation programmes for the students of Minority Community.

Scope:

  • Examine the availability of welfare programmes for SC/ST students.
  • Look into the problems encountered by them.
  • Receive complaints from the SC/ST students on any specific matter.
  • Respond to their grievances and issues in a time-bound manner.
  • Ensure that the scholarships and assistance from governmental or non-governmental agencies are disbursed on time.
